Sri Devi Renuka Kavacham – Sri Bhairava Rudrayamala Thanthram – Lyrics and meanings

Devi Parvathi speaks “ Oh! My Lord Shankara, kindly narrate the glorious myth of Devi Renuka who is beloved of Sage Jamadagni, she is the presiding deity of the illustrious clan and protector of the clan, and she is mother to the destitute and desolate people.”



Lord Shankara speaks “ Oh! Maheshvari, sacred armor of Devi Renuka is equivalent to all superior hymns which can be recited on regular basis without any prescribe rite, or charity, or fire sacrifices; it is highly propitious hymn which brings abundance of success in the three worlds, it provides all kinds of supernatural powers, victory and auspiciousness, it eradicates evil effects of Dakini, Bhootha, Vethala, Pishacha, Bhramarakshass etc.. it was earlier composed by Lord Bhrama during the battle between the Deva and Asura, in order to attain well-being, ultimately it brought great success to Devas in the vicious battle,  it is highly auspicious hymn eradicates the evil effects of Bhootha and Apasmara, Oh! Priye, remembering this auspicious hymn during expedition through dense wood, or residing in the palace, or in the battle field, or afflictions caused by Bhramarakshass, or imprisonment, or while travelling, or during legal battle, would provide success to the worshiper, Oh! Parvathi, carefully listen to the sacred armor of Devi Renuka, remembrance of these sacred verses would bring Dharma, Kama, and Arththa, it was previously recited by Rishi Bhrama, it has Anushtup as Chandhass, presiding deity is Devi Renuka, Prithvi as Beejam, RamA as Shakthi, it is recited to attain Purusharththa, she is Mahamaya, she is Ambika who is the mother of Universe and its living beings, adorned in pearl decorated ornaments of precious yellow metal, she holds Poornnakumbha, she is seated on a majestic throne decorated in precious yellow metal, sacred armor of Devi Renuka should be recited after offering initial prayers to the lotus feet of  the preceptor,  may Lord Indhra protects being in front, may Goddess Sureshvari protects from fire, may Lord Yama protects from south, may Nairuthi protects from the south-west, may Lord Varuna protects from the west, may Lord Vayu protects from the north-west, may Lord Kubera protects from upper areas, may Lord Eshvara protects from the north-east, may Lord Bhrama protects from above, may Anantha protects from below, and  recitation of sacred armor of Devi Renuka should begin with offering salutations to Mahendhra.  May Goddess Bhramani protects my head, may Goddess Maheshvari protects my eyes, may Goddess Vaishnavi protects my  nose, may Karnnavasini protects my ears, may Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi protects my neck, may Chandabhairavi protects my heart, may Bagala protects my arms, may Mahishamardhini protects my hands, may Charcchika protects my fingers, hair, and navel, may Guhyeshvari protects my re-productive organs, may Mahamathi protects my thighs, may Janani  RamA protects my knee, may Narasimhika protects the calves, may Vasundhara protects my feet and nails, may Gandika protects Romakoopa, Medhass, Majja, Mamsa and Asthi,  Devi Renuka who is the mother of Universe and its living beings resides in the Mahapura, she should be worshiped in the prescribed gestures known as Anganyasa and Karanyasa.”


The propitious hymns of sacred armor of Devi Renuka was composed by Rishi Bhrama, it has Anushtup as Chandhass, Devi Renuka as its presiding deity, Lam as Beejam, it is recited to please Devi Renuka.



Karanyasa:

“I shall  pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Ram’ and offer salutation with my thumb, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Reem’ and offer salutation with my index finger, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Room’ and offer salutation with my middle finger, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Raim’ and offer salutation with my ring finger, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Raum’ and offer salutation with my little finger, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Ra:’ and offer salutation with my palm and back of the palm as well.”


Hridhayadhinyasa:

“I shall prostrate before Devi Renuka, and  pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Pam’ and offer salutation with my head, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Pham’ and offer salutation with my right eye, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Bam’ and offer salutation with my left eye, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Bham’ and offer salutation with my right side of nose, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Mam’ and offer salutation with my left side of nose, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Yam’ and offer salutation with my right ear, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Ram’ and offer salutation with my left ear, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Lam’ and offer salutation with my face, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Vam’ and offer salutation with my Gudha.”



“I shall earnestly pray to Bhramani to protect my Bhramabhaga, I shall earnestly pray to Dharani to protect my head, Oh! Maheshani Oh! Parvathi, kindly protect us. Oh! Bhairavi, Thripura, Bala, Vajra, Tharini, Para, Oh! Parvathi, kindly protect us always. Oh! Parvathi, Haravallabhe, kindly protect all the limbs, Oh! Slayer of Mahishasura, kindly bless us with various boons, Oh! Mahakali, kindly protect my head always, Oh! Thadake, kindly protect from the sky, Oh! Vahnivasini kindly protect from Pathaloka,  Oh! Kalika and Karalika, who are wielded in bow are arrows,  Khadga and Khadvanga respectively, kindly protect us from the left and right sides, Oh! Devi Renuka, kindly protect all the limbs and provide us boons, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Ram Ram Ram’ and prostrate before Devi Renuka who is the mother of Bhargavarama,  Oh! Parameshvari, kindly protect us from intimidation of the King and battle field, troubles from the enemies, accidents from water and fire, threat from lion and King, threats from funeral grounds and woods, Oh! Devi Renuke, who is the mother of Universe and its living beings, kindly bless us with abundance of boons, good appearance and permanent fame, and kindly eradicate our enemies,  I shall prostrate before Devi Renuka and pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Aim’ Oh! Maheshi, Oh! Maheshvari who is the purifier of souls, Oh! Chandi, who is adorned in serpents, conch and Kapala, she is adorned in magnificent earrings of precious yellow metal.  The above are the sacred armor of Devi Renuka who is Maheshvari, whoever reads or listens to it during the hours of dawn, noon and dusk on regular basis would be blessed with all kinds of supernatural powers, worship of Devi Renuka and recitation of these sacred hymns for hundred times during the hours of solar or lunar eclipse, after following austerities, would provide Manthrasiddhi,  reciting these sacred hymns followed by worship of Devi Renuka standing on the  water up to navel in a sacred pond or on the Prayaga/confluence of rivers looking upon Lord Surya, would fulfill all the desires of the worshiper,  Oh! Priye, installation of decorated vessel and offering earthen lamp lightened with mustard oil and recitation of these sacred armor would eradicate evil effects of Bhootha, Pretha, Pishacha, Dakini etc.. The worshiper would be blessed with wealth, abundance of grains, fame, intellect and get fulfilled all that desired.”
