Sri Gita Govinda Mahakavyam - Sri Jayadeva Ashtapadi – 17 - Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Radharani after spending the night in great amusements, she was completely exhausted by the cupid arrows of Manmatha, she began to speak in merciless tone to Krishna who prostrated before her and pleaded for forgiveness.  “ Oh ! Krishna your eyes filled with compassion and love are closing slowly due to sleeplessness as you were immersed in the passionate sport with the young maidens in the night.  Oh! Krishna your eyes clearly reveal the intensity of passion towards the young maidens of Vraja.  Oh! Madhava, Oh! Keshava, don’t act deceitful, you can approach those beautiful young maidens who has the eyes resembles lotus petals, they will appease your despair.  Oh! Krishna your lips have turned into black color after the amorous sport, due to the smudges of colors of eyelashes from their eyes, Oh! Krishna your body is full of marks of sharp nails of young maidens who had passionate sport with you, as a mark of victory over passionate sport inscribed in golden letters on the wall of emerald.  Oh! Krishna, your most celebrated chest bears the Laksharasa/ red nail colors painted on the feet of the young maidens; it appears as the Madhanadhruma/ tree of passionate sport sprouted with its branches.  Oh! Krishna, I feel miserable after seeing your wounded lips after the passionate sport with the young maidens, though you may say that we are inseparable and cannot be differentiated.  Oh! Krishna, your heart must be polluted, how can you deceive your people who follow you always and tormented with the cupid arrows of Manmatha?  Oh! Krishna, you are roaming in the dense wood looking for the innocent young maidens, your glorious myth about the annihilation of Poothana is widely spoken; glory to that merciless child.” The above are marvelous verses of Sri Jayadeva depicts the expression of grief of young maiden Radharani who was deserted from the performance of amorous sport with Krishna, listening to the above is superior to the nectar which is inaccessible.  “I can witness the red color on your chest,  Laksharasa/paints from the feet of young maidens; after seeing your passion toward me I feel sorrowful more than the shame."  Oh! Nandhathmaja, Oh! Jagadhanandhaka, once Radharani and Krishna exchanged their clothes, she wore the yellow majestic clothes of Achyutha and he attired in blue garments of Radharani, after seeing them all the young maidens of Vraja burst into laughter, Krishna turned bashful and he passed sidelong glances towards Radharani.  Oh! Kamsaripo/enemy of Kamsa, all the auspiciousness to Vamshi who plays melodious music on the bamboo flute! He protected Earth from the burden and Mandara from its tilting, he split open the pillar and appeared before his devotee, he has efficacious charm to lure the hearts of young maidens of Vraja who has eyes resemble deer, he crushed the pride of demons, he is supreme Lord who removes afflictions of the worshiper,  and his irrepressible feet which crushed the pride in Bali.
