Sri Mahakala Sahasranama is sacred verses praising the glories of Lord Mahakaleshvara, one of the 12 Jyothirlinga Kshethra located in Avanthi/Ujjain, these thousands of sacred names of Lord Mahalakala was narrated by Lord Krishna to his closest associate Sudhama while they were under the tutelage of Maharishi Sandheepani, and Lord Krishna concludes with the abundance of the meritorious rewards attainable through the recitation of Sri Mahakala Sahasranama.



Sutha speaks “The above are the thousands of sacred names of Lord Mahakala , whoever recites or listens to it would be purified from all kinds of sins, whoever reads or listens to it for a week would be blessed with virtuous offspring, whoever reads or listens to it for two weeks would conquer the world, whoever reads or listens to it for three weeks would be blessed with abundance of wealth and grains and  meritorious reward, whoever recites the glorious thousands of sacred names of Mahakala sitting under the Vadavriksha/peepal, would become true ascetic/sage, whoever recites or listens the sacred names of Mahakala for three weeks and thrice a day would be blessed with all  kinds of Siddhis/supernatural powers, whoever recites or listen the sacred verses of Mahakala sitting under Ashwaththa or Tulsi or on the banks of river or pond or shrines of Hari or Hara,  and following austerities would get all their desires fulfilled,  whoever reads or listens sitting under Ashwaththa or Vadavruksha, or on the banks of sacred rivers or ponds would be enriched with supreme wisdom and knowledge, whoever reads or listens to these sacred names of Mahakala with utmost sincerity  and devotion would attain all that they desired, remembrance of Lord Mahakala would bring abundance of pieties,  Oh!
