Neelanjana Samabhasam Raviputhram Yamagrajam | Cchaya Marthanda Sambhootham Tham Namami Shanaishcharam ||



I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya and younger brother to Lord Yama, I shall prostrate before Lord Shanaishchara who was born to  Devi Cchaya and Lord Marthanda, and has the luster of lightning.


I shall prostrate supreme before Lord Shanaishchara who has unique bodily features, he takes immense pleasure in  Jjallari Vadhya/a special kind of musical instrument, he symbolizes wisdom and knowledge, he is approachable with wisdom and knowledge, he is Gnani and he symbolizes treasure of supreme wisdom and knowledge, he imparts  supreme knowledge, he eagerly observes the matters with his supreme intellect, he represents the syllable ‘Da’, he is worshiped with the sacred hymns  and sacred syllable ‘Da’, he is fond of loud noises, he is pleased with the sounds of Dakka and Damaru/musical instrument, he takes immense pleasure in the loud noises of Dakkanadha, he triggers the trouble of  Dakini/ female attendant of Goddess Kali, Shakini/female attendant of Durga and evil spirits, and he eradicates the troubles caused by them, he represents the sacred syllable of  ‘Dakara’, he acts like Dambika, he gets pleased to listen the recital of ‘Nakara’, he symbolizes ‘Nakara’, he represents the principal syllable ‘Nakara’, he represents  ‘Nakara’ hymns, he is superior jewel of ‘Nakara’ adorned in the head, he take immense pleasure in the sounds of ‘Nakara’, he is the essence of ‘Nakara’, he provides  pieties for the austerities observed  with the particular gestures of forefinger, he is embodied as Thrivikrama who has profound knowledge of three Vedas, he is Thapasvi who undergoes severe penances, he is the essence of Thapas/austerities, he appears as unpleasant/burnt and carries Amra/mango fruit, he is omniscient, he get pleased with the veneration at dawn, noon and dusk, he represents lamp wick, he causes anxiety and fear in wicked, he is fond of Thilathaila/till oil, he is pleased to consume Thilanna/rice made of till, he gets pleased with the offerings of Till as charity.
