Bhramanda Mohanakhyam Durga Kavacham – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Maharashi Narada speaks “ Oh! Bhagavan,  Oh! Dharmajja who is aware of all the righteousness, you are prominent in all subjects, kindly narrate the sacred verses of Bhramanda Mohanam Kavacham in praise of Goddess Adi Shakthi.”

Lord Narayana replies “ Oh! Vathsa/son, listen to me carefully, it is one of the highly auspicious hymns rarely known to public, which was taught by Lord Bhrama to Lord Krishna.  It was narrated by Lord Bhrama to Dharma on the river banks of Jaghnavi, and it was retold by compassionate Dharma in Pushkaram.  It is auspicious armor wielded by Lord Shiva during the battle with the demons of city of Thripura, later it was given to me while battling with the demons Madhu and Kaidaba, it was adopted by Goddess Sri Bhadrakali while fighting with the demon Rakthabeeja, further it was worn by Lord Indra for winning over Kamalalayam, it was worn by Mahakala who is immortal and righteous, it was worn by Lord Nandikehwara who is highly intellectual, with immense joy.  It was worn by mighty warrior Bana who is the destroyer of enemies, it was worn by Rishi Durvasa who is wise and has the effulgence equivalent to Lord Shiva.”

“  The sacred letter begins with ‘Om Durgethi’ and ends with ‘Swahantho’ considered as foremost, and Shadakshara Manthra recited by the devotee is treated as  Kalpapadhapa, whoever sincerely recites and has immense knowledge in Veda would easily understand the meanings of the same, and they would remain equivalent to Lord Vishnu.  Let my face always protected by the recitation of Om Durgaye Nama, let my neck protected by the recitation of Om Durge Raksha, let my shoulders remains protected by the recitation of  ‘Om  Hreem Shreem’ , let the back portion of my body remains protected by the recitation of ‘ Hreem Shreem, Kleem,’ let my heart remains protected by the recitation of ‘Hreem’, let my hands protected by the recitation of ‘Shrim’ let my all body parts remains protected while in the three states of Swapana, Jagrath and Sushupthi, by the recitation of ‘ Ayam, Shreem, Hreem,’  Let nature protect me in the East, let Goddess Chandika protects the Southeast, let the South remains protected by Goddess Bhadrakali, let the Southwest protected by Goddess Maheshwari, let the West protects by Goddess Varahi, let the Northwest protects by Goddess Sarvamangala, let the North remains protected by Goddess Sri Vaishnavi, let the Northeast remains protected by  Goddess Shivapriya, Let Goddess Jagadambika protects me in water, land, and sky.  Oh! Vathsa, this is one of the rarest armor of Goddess Sri Durga, while receiving or giving the sacred hymns of protective armor, it is necessary to decorate the idol of Goddess Sri Durga with sandal paste and clothes by Preceptor, one who wears the armor after having holy dip in sacred waters and perambulation of Universe remains equivalent to Lord Vishnu, whoever wear the sacred hymn and recite the hymns for five lakh times would remain Siddha, whoever sincerely recites this sacred armor would be relieved from sorrows, and they will not face death in water, fire, poison or fever.  They would remain Jeevanmukthas/free from repeated births, and they would achieve all those supernatural powers, whoever master the sacred armor would remain equivalent to Lord Vishnu.”
