Aishwarya Lakshmi Sthothram – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Sage Parashara speaks “ Thus Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who is seated on the majestic throne, holding divine wheel and lotus flower in her hands, returned to the abode of trinities which is her permanent dwelling place.’’

Lord Indra spoke “ I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who is initiated from the milky ocean and she is the mother of the Universe, she is the symbol of wealth, she has eyes resembles to lotus flower, she dwells on the chest of Lord Vishnu, she dwells in the house of lotus/Padmalaya, she has the luster of lotus flower/Padmakaram, her eyes resembles to the leaves of lotus flower/Padmapathranibhekshana, her face has the resemblance to lotus flower/Padmamukhi, she is the darling of Lord Padmanabha/Padmanabhapriya,  she is Siddhi, Swadha and Swaha as well, she is the ruler of the Universe, she is personified as Goddess Sri Saraswathi, she represents dusk, night , dawn, Earth and cleverness as well.  she represents  knowledge about fire sacrifices/Yajjavidhya, she is the symbol of Mahavidhya/supreme knowledge, she represents Guhyavidhya/supreme knowledge about confidential subjects, she has supreme brilliance, she represents Athmavidhya/knowledge of Athman/soul, she is the provider of liberty from repeated births to her passionate devotees, she is the symbol of the Universe/Jagathroopa, she is omnipresent, she is compassionate and fierce as well, she is the seeker of truth in the three worlds and disperse punishment, she represents Yajja/fire sacrifices and dwells in the hearts of Yogis,  Oh! Devi, the entire Universe remains fruitless without your presence, Oh! Mahabhaga, your auspicious gaze provides appropriate companion, children, friends, wealth, and grains in abundance, Oh! Devi, your auspicious gaze provides good health, prosperity, happiness and it destroys enemies, Oh! Matha, you are the mother of the Universe and Lord Hari who is the Lord of Lords is our father, Oh! Amba, all those living and non-living creatures in this Universe is originated from you, Oh! Sarvapavani/purifier of all, if you abandon us there will not be any material world such as body,  home, family, etc.. Oh! Vishnuvaksha Sthalalaye/who dwells on the chest of Lord Vishnu, kindly do not abandon my children, associates, domesticated animals and treasures.  Oh! Amale, kindly do not abandon us to remain truthful, austere and virtuous,  your auspicious gaze transforms a deprived person into virtuous and honorable, your auspicious gaze brings fame, good conduct, humbleness, intellect, fearlessness and courage, therefore Oh! Vishnuvallabhe/darling of Lord Vishnu, Oh! Jagathdhathri, if you abandon a person all those virtues and fame will leaves instantly, Oh! Padmakshi, your glories are beyond description even Lord Bhrama is incompetent to describe your splendor, therefore kindly shower your auspicious gaze always on us.”

Sage Parashara said “In this way Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi was eulogized by Lord Indra who has thousands of eyes, on behalf of all the deities and living beings for the wellbeing of all.”

Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi replied “Oh! Devesha, I am so pleased at your devotion and praising with various hymns, I am willing to provide boons.”

Lord Indra said “Oh! Varada/provider of boons, I shall prostrate before you Oh! Devi, kindly provides a boon and I am deserved for that you should not abandon three worlds.  Oh! Abdhisambhave/originated from the milky ocean, I shall always eulogize your glories, kindly do not abandon us.”

Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi replied “I am so pleased at your devotion and recitation of sacred hymns; I shall offer boon that I will always dwell in the three worlds.   Whoever read or listens to the sacred hymns praising my glories in the hours of dusk and dawn would be blessed with my eternal presence and I will not abandon them.”

Sage Parashara concluded “Oh! Maithreya, in this way, Lord Indra/Devaraja obtained boons from Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who was pleased at the recital of sacred hymns.  She is the daughter of Sage Bhrugu who was initiated from the milky ocean while churning for the nectar of immortality by deities and demons, she always incarnates for the assistance of Jagathswami/Lord of the Universe, Lord of Lords/Devadeva, Lord Janardhana, she took the form of Padma when Lord Hari transformed into Adithya, she took the form of Earth when Lord Hari personified as  Bhargavarama, she embodied as Seetha when Lord Hari took the form of Lord Raghava, she incarnated as Rukmini when Lord Hari personified as Lord Krishna, so whenever Lord Vishnu incarnates Goddess Mahalakshmi also personifies for the assistance of him, either in the form of deities or in the form of human suitable to the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.”

“Whoever read or listen to the above glorious verses, it is definite that their house will be blessed with the eternal presence of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, and will be free from Alakshmi who is fond of wickedness and fights.”

The above sacred hymns were recited by Lord Bhrama praising the glories of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who is the daughter of Sage Bhrugu, while initiated from the milky ocean. It was later retold by Lord Indra praising Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi for attaining abundance of boons, whoever reads or listens to those glorious verses on daily basis would be blessed with the eternal presence of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi.
