Dhashavathara Bhujanga Sthavam – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vasudeva personified as divine fish to annihilate the demon Hayagreevah who disappeared in unfathomable ocean which is the dwelling place of all kinds of dreadful aquatic animals and crammed with ocean waves, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Vasudeva to protect us from all the perils.  I shall meditate upon Sheshangashayi who personified as Koorma/wild tortoise and elevated the Mandhara Mountain on his back; I shall earnestly pray to provide us happiness.  I shall meditate upon Lord Murari who incarnated as   Varaha /wild boar with sharp projection from the nose, and raised the Mother Earth with its powerful horn, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Murari to provide us wealth.  I shall meditate upon Lord Vishnu who is delight of Rama/Mahalakshmi, who personified as Nrusimha, half man and half lion with dreadful sharp nails, in order to protect his passionate devotee and tore the chest of demon King, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Narasimha to destroy all our sins.   I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vishnu who is personified as Vamana/dwarf, and received three strides of land as alms from Mahabali, eventually assumed colossal form and measured the Earth and Sky in two strides, crushed the pride of Mahabali by keeping his third stride on his head, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Vamana to protect us from worldly bondage.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vishnu who is personified as Bhargava Rama/Parasurama, he soaked in the blood of evil Kshathriyas and paid obeisance to his father, and made the Earth inhabitable for the Bhramins.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vishnu who personified as Raghurama/Lord Rama, provided shelter to monkey warrior Sugriva and performed his coronation ceremony as King of Kishkindha, destroyed the clan of Ravana, broken down the glorious Shivadhanuss and wedded Janaki, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Rama to destroy our sins.   I shall meditate upon Lord Vishnu who personified as Lord Krishna, elevated the Mount Govardhana and in that way he protected the cattle and people of Vraja from the torrential rain, he is the destroyer of enemies, he destroyed the clan of enemies in battlefield, he crushed the pride of serpent Kaliya, he is wielded in holy wheel, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Krishna to protect us.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vishnu who personified as Lord Buddha, undertakes severe austerities and Yogic practices, seated on the Padmasana posture, he is supreme among Yogis  immerse in deep meditation in that way takes great pleasure in the eternal bliss, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Buddha to provide us auspiciousness.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Vishnu whose impending incarnation as Kalki with powerful sword and mounted on horse, in order to destroy the wicked people, I shall earnestly pray to Kalkiswaroopa to protect us from the enemies.

Whoever reads or listens to the glorious Bhujanga Sthavam which comprises the Dhashavathara of Lord Vishnu who reclines on the bed of serpent, with utmost devotion and faith would attain perpetual blessings of Lord Vishnu.
