Shiva Giti Mala – 3

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

|| Shankara ||

Shiva Gitimala was composed by Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi ( 62nd Seer of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedam), it consists of 20 enthralling verses known as Ashtapadi praising the pleasurable moments of Lord Ekamreshwarar and Goddess Sri Kamakshi.  This beautiful composition portraits the desperation, devotion and dedication, of individual soul/Jeevathma, attain union with the Supreme soul/Paramathma in order to achieve eternal bliss.  Shiva Ashtapadi/Shiva Gitimala begins with the veneration of Lord Ganesha.  The entire verses illustrate the miserable state of separation of Goddess Parvathi from Lord Shiva.  Goddess Sri Parvati underwent severe penance on the river banks of Kampa in order to unite with the Lord Shiva.  The divine couple undergoes unbearable pain of separation; Lord Shiva came down to Earth and resides under a mango tree where Goddess Sri Parvati undertakes penance was observed by faithful companion of Goddess and was duly informed.  The state of remorseful, desertion, guilt and the messages exchanged through the companion of Godess Sri Parvati etc.. are beautifully depicted in the Ashtapadi.  Ultimately Lord Shiva appears before Goddess Sri Parvati and apologizes profusely, after an initial harshness between the couple and blissfully unites.

The cool gentle breeze was filled with the delicate scent of freshly blossomed flowers, the honeybees joyfully humming around after consuming nectar to their heart content.  It was in the early hours of nightfall of a beautiful spring season, Lord Shiva who has the enthralling charisma capable to mesmerize the damsels, settled under the foot of a Kalpaka tree.

Lord Shiva shines with the beautiful smear of Kumkum and fragrant pastes all over.  Rathidevi, the chaste wife of Manmatha who was burnt into ashes by the Lord was extremely distressed.

Lord Shiva resides under the mango tree in the middle of alluring flowers which was used by Lord Manmatha as his armor, surrounded by innumerable honey-bees enthusiastically engaged in consuming delectable honey.

Lord Shiva resides in a place where the honey-bees producing the vibrant noises resembles the chanting of Vedic hymns by Lord Manmatha and the sages incessantly bathe in the nectar from the flowers.

Lord Shiva resides in a place where the cool breeze carries the enchanting aroma prompted by Lord Manmatha and the flowers in the tree entertain the honey bees as their pleasant guests.

The ascetic who loved the serenity of the woodland and observed vow of silence starts speaking joyously after witnessing the presence of Lord Shiva.  The cool breeze comforts the young maiden who was tired of sport living in the hermitage made out of clinging plants.

 Lord Shiva resides in the place where the gentle magical breeze is the chariot of Lord Manmatha, who has the weapon of flower arrows which carries the intense and captivating scent to kindle the hearts with the emotion of love in the estranged couple.

The above sacred verses of Chandrasekharendra Yathi , a passionate devotee of Lord Shiva reciting about the beautiful spring season in the woodland may remain at the feet of Lord Shiva.

The gentle breeze blows carrying the strong aroma of flower buds which waft over the ripples of Kampa River that was brimmed with lotuses.
